The building
A 1910 warehouse, opened up around a courtyard. White stucco, arched windows and a bottle tree in the middle. Every shop opens onto it. Stairs lead up to a roof deck over downtown.
How it came together
- 1910
The warehouse
Built for industry on Traction Ave. 25,000 square feet. Most recently split into 15 creative offices.
- 2019
Free Market
Raan Parton and Paolo Carini open Free Market, a shop of shops in Denver's Dairy Block. It works. The next step is a building of their own.
- 2022
Traction Ave
The partners take on the warehouse, first planned as another Free Market. It becomes Signal, a destination that stands on its own.
- 2024
Signal opens
Klein Agency keeps the old structure and builds on it. 40,000 square feet over two floors, with a modern nod to the California missions. Shops downstairs, Greycroft upstairs.
Who is behind it
Raan Parton
Co-founded the label Apolis with his brother, Shea. Started Alchemy Works with his wife, Lindsay, in 2013. Its first Arts District store was around the corner.
Paolo Carini
Worked as a lawyer first. Then two decades with fashion family offices in Milan, New York and London. Partner with Raan Parton in Stardust Partners.
Jon and Masa Kleinhample's studio designed the building. Their own shop is in the courtyard.

The roof
Lounge seating, fire tables and the skyline.

The courtyard
An Australian bottle tree in the middle, found through a plant collector near the Mexican border. Raan Parton calls it the mascot.
